Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Focused on challenging reading comprehension and grammar questions, developed relevant personalized strategies."
"We went over strategies for taking the English test, reviewed some points of grammar, usage, and mechanics, and did a timed practice section on which the student did very well."
"We began by going over the questions he had answered incorrectly for the paired reading, which was only about 20% of them. He had missed a lot of the content because he was rushing, and he easily got the answers once I asked him to slow down. Similarly, though he answered about 40% of the writing questions incorrectly, when we went over the answers he seemed to know many of the grammar rules he had glossed over and was able to find many of the right answer choices on his own. We then took some time to read four different passages of different lengths on a variety of topics and answer a small amount of questions on each. I find that he is getting better at answering questions, but he still has a bit of trouble reading through passages because of vocabulary. He seemed to do much better with finding the main idea this time, although he often misses details, especially at the end of passages. Still, he is doing much better than before, and I think he will become more comfortable with reading as we continue to practice. We ended the session by reviewing the vocab flashcards we had made each week and doing some multiple choice vocabulary drills. Though he still needs to keep practicing his vocab, he has learned a lot of new words and seems to remember them consistently each week. I am pleased with where he is right now, though he still has a lot of practicing to do. Though he does have another AP exam this week, I still left him with two practice SAT sections to complete (one reading and one writing). Although we are not meeting on Wednesday, I hope to begin addressing the essay in addition to looking over reading some more when we meet again next week."
