"I pride myself on being well versed not just in one subject, but in a broad selection of topics. This ranges from English literature and composition and US History to Advanced Precalculus and Physics. I love athletics and play multiple sports, always trying to keep in shape (but I'll warn you, I'm from Boston MA so I'm a big Red Sox/Celtics/Patriots fan haha...). I am extremely passionate about music and I play multiple instruments, including piano, guitar, drums and harmonica."

"When it comes to test prep, I work carefully with my students to design a personalized program of study that takes advantage of their strengths and addresses their weaknesses, so that on test day they’ll earn their highest possible score. Outside of the SAT/ACT, my areas of strength are in reading, writing, language (Latin), and history. I believe that learning is an inherently enjoyable experience, and while I demand a lot of my students, I make sure that my tutoring sessions are engaging and fun. When it comes to my students, I believe that his or her success is mine as well. I look forward to helping my students develop the skills that will ...

"My experiences have been uniformly positive and I've found that any student, no matter their previous experience or abilities, is eager to learn and to do well. I believe that it is the role of the teacher to harness these natural energies and put them to good use by making the material more relatable to the student and their own interests. This will only be accomplished if the teacher is both patient and understanding. Besides my interest in math and science my other interests include Latin, French, computer programming, basketball, and Go.." ...

"This could be as elemental as applying their interests to whatever it is they are studying, be it finding literary bits about ancient sport to practice Latin grammar or envisioning the perfect essay in relation to a perfect layer cake. My students have ranged from the pre-K to university levels. For each student, I put a strong emphasis on personalizing their studies to their needs and interests. My passions as a scholar lie in the humanities -- my two and a half years in the pre-medical program at Fordham notwithstanding -- particularly in American and European history, literature and Latin." ...

"I graduated from Sapienza University in Rome in Philosophy in 2010 with the maximum grade, and I have another degree in Physics that will be completed in the first months of 2013. I have worked as a tutor for more than 3 years, in 1:1 sessions as well as in classroom environment, with class sizes ranging from 3 to 10 people. Tutoring is my passion, because I feel that teaching and helping students find their way out of difficulties is something very rewarding for itself. I really believe in tutoring, as a way to improve your grades in the short term, and as a long term investment to set a completely new point of view about studying. In fact, learning ...

A photo of Jake who is one of our New York City Latin tutors
"One must quickly diagnose the main areas the student needs to improve, so as not to waste time. A great tutor can see outside the box and be flexible enough to explain the same concept in a variety of ways, depending on the needs of the student. A tutor must be more personable with the student than a classroom teacher, who to a certain degree, must hide behind a teaching persona. Lastly, in addition to speaking with the utmost clarity, a great tutor must have excellent listening skills.."
