Tutoring review by Daniel in College Park, GA
We spent all of today covering new material. The chapter focused on parametric and polar coordinates and related topics like arc length. The student didn't feel like she understood the new material very well, but she picked up on the important ideas very quickly as we worked through a problem set. Her final is next week so we will try to meet a few more times to finish covering the newest material and start reviewing the whole course.

Tutoring review by Glenn in College Park, GA
We reviewed the student's last test and prepared for the new one. He has mastered the more difficult concepts in the section, but sometimes moves too quickly to remember the simple parts. If he can remember to take his time and employ PEMDAS, then he should get a perfect score on his next test.

Tutoring review by Amanda in College Park, GA
The student and I started the lesson by reviewing his grammar assignment. I indicated questions where he made an error, and he worked to identify his mistake and correct it. We then moved on to his math assignment, which was to study for an upcoming test on place value. He has a very solid understanding of these concepts. We worked on extra worksheets similar to his review material, covering simple place value problems and some work with table analysis.

Tutoring review by Meenakshi in College Park, GA
1) We went over chapter 2 in the student's math book, which is review from last year. She mentioned that the quiz and test her teacher gave were much more difficult than the book problems, so I plan to focus on bridging that gap for her between straight forward book problems and tricky test questions. Exposure to those harder types of problems before test day will make a big difference. Areas for clarification/instruction: - Simplifying expressions/equations (going through each step carefully and working up to quick, mental simplification), - Identifying properties (associative, distributive, commutative - knowing what these are and when to use them), and - Translating word problems into written expressions (practical problems). 2) We also started working on an English paragraph for a Describe/Argue assignment. We worked on making a topic sentence and deciding which evidence was relevant to her argument. Areas for clarification/instruction: -Pulling out the strongest, most applicable evidence to support a claim, -Logically structuring these pieces of evidence within a paragraph, and -Using broad conclusion statements to summarize the paragraph's agenda. Strategies: We discussed where square roots/square numbers come from, ways to remember variables and coefficients, and routines for mental math that we will begin next week. Extra materials: I will bring supplemental materials to leave with her next session as this was our first session.

Tutoring review by Aidan in College Park, GA
The student has a test tomorrow in his physics class, so we reviewed today by doing some practice problems out of his textbook. We worked mainly in the areas of gravitation and work and energy. His understanding of these problems was already pretty good, since he has been working on these problems for a little while now. Today we improved his understanding of these topics and his ability to solve these types of problems through practice. He feels ready for his test tomorrow.
