Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
We started forming our vocabulary word bank, making sure to highlight the differences between assault/robbery and their various degrees. Legal definitions can be very tedious and confusing, so I recommended that he read them very slowly and underline key words such as 'only,' 'must,' and 'or,' and that can change the definition meaning completely."
1. Reading word problems extra carefully. Space is limited and information is condensed, so, in addition to math skills, this requires some teacher psychology and language skills.
2. Writing your results very clearly, circling them or placing them into a rectangle to enable even a teacher under stress to read the results easily.
3.Write your answers in whole sentences.
4.Realize the structure of the test. There are titles that apply to several questions not just one.
5.If you have extra time, go over individual derivation again, checking yourself.
6.Flip the way you approach the problem on its head. Literally, deal with the denominator before you deal with the numerator.
7.Look at the problem from a different perspective. We found 3 distinct way to solve a Bonus problem with a polygon.
8.Student has taken notes of these and more general test-taking skills and will peruse them in future tests."
