Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished a project he has, where he was instructed to create a sales receipt for three items on amazon that he would like to buy. He was instructed to calculate the cost of goods, tax, and shipping costs, then arrive at the total cost. It was an exercise in mathematical operations involving decimals. Also we complete three homework items that he needed to get finished for school. They were also exercises in decimals. The student continues to make progress on his on his multiplication tables."
"Today in our session with the student we needed to work with her essay due tomorrow. She was pretty good on what she summarizing. She wrote one introduction paragraph and two development paragraphs. They were all very smooth and understandable. After that we started practicing on the test she will be taking soon."
"Today we covered frequency chart, mean, median, mode, and range. We also reviewed dividing fractions with unlike denominators. The student stayed very motivated during today's session. I left student with some fraction practice. The student seems to be understanding future concepts very well."
"We actually worked on a combination of algebra 2 and physics. In algebra, she has a test this Tuesday, so we went over problems from her study sheet that include solving quadratic equations with imaginary roots by completing the square, factoring and using the quadratic equation. In physics, there will be a retest on Thursday because the class did poorly on the test this past Thursday. She is ok with the free response questions (though she is insecure about them), but does poorly on the conceptual problems. We talked through some conceptual problems and redid the free response problems that she did incorrectly. She was feeling much more comfortable by the end of the session."
"Today the student worked on his statistics assignment to get him caught up with his most current assignment, which he will continue working on next session. Together we identified hypotheses, ran descriptive statistics, created tables, and wrote a descriptive analysis section for his assignment. He is going to work on preliminary data screening for his chosen variables, including running histograms and boxplots to identify outliers, before our next session."
"The student and I worked on telling time to the minute. He struggled with the difference between the minute and hour hand. When asked to show me 10 past 3, he would mix up the hour and minute hand. I included some study strategies to assist him with telling time. He had books with extra practice. I know he will learn this; it will just take some more practice."
