Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the second of three chapters on the student's comprehensive math test which involved imaginary numbers, once we really examined what imaginary numbers were, she was very comfortable using and manipulating them in algebraic equations."
"We began reviewing for an upcoming test. I went over the differences between the 3 types of chi-squared tests as well as other significance tests. We then reviewed how to calculate significance statistics (z/t/chi-squared). We went through two packets of review questions dealing with her tests. For the most part, the student seems comfortable with the material and all the math involved. She just needs to review certain definitions and how to interpret hypothesis and results. She takes her test on Monday."
"The student prepared for his math quiz over exponents. We did approximately 70 questions for practice. He only missed 3 and seems very familiar with the material. I'm sure he'll do quite well on his quiz."
"Today we went over the student's spiral math worksheet. The worksheet required him to complete word and arithmetic problems that ranged in difficulty from simple arithmetic (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and decimals) to algebraic and geometric concepts. He has a much better grasp on principles of geometry. Once he knows the equation, he is able to solve the question without too much trouble. He's doing well with the material; he just needs to focus on taking his time and memorizing equations."
"The student rated himself a 10 out of 5 for today's session! He did a great job and completed all of his math. It took a bit of time in the beginning to get started, but we began with solving the word problems: surface area of a 3D ramp-shape, division, and reading tables. We then moved onto the textbook problems, which mainly involved plotting coordinate pairs, identifying x- and y- values, and describing the use of coordinate grids. This was a new concept for us to work on together, but it seemed easy for him, with only a few explanations needed. At the end of the session, he finished math, but still had a bit of reading and science to complete. He said he is gearing up for state testing, which he feels confident in taking in the next few weeks."
"Met with the student today from 4:30-5:30 pm. He had math homework and some math vocabulary that he will be tested on later this week. After he finished the math worksheets, I checked them over and he had all of them correct. I timed him on his multiplication facts (the 8's); the first time, he got 19/20 (timed for 2 min.) and the second time he got 18/20 (timed for 1 min.). He should continue to practice the math vocabulary."
