Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over division with single digit divisors. We continued working on fractions, recognizing fractions as parts of a whole, numerators and denominators, representing fractions on a number line from 0 to 1, and recognizing equivalent fractions."
"Today, the student and I worked on a multiplication review, decimals and telling time. She did not have homework due to spring break so we did a review of her 9's multiplication. After that she told me that her class was moving on to fractions and decimals, so we did a basic introduction to decimals and how they relate to fractions. The student asked if we could work on telling time from an analog clock. We went over the clock, the hands and how to tell time. She seemed to understand the concept well. Overall, it was a very productive session and, as always, she had such a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!"
"Today we started doing a review of the student's notes from last semester, making sure she understands each topic. We covered methods for finding absolute and relative extrema, as well as the Mean value Theorem and Rolle's Theorem."
"Today we covered simplifying, adding and subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational expressions. The student is working with factoring polynomials with leading coefficients greater than one. I showed him how to set up the problem and how to think about what numbers he needs to successfully factor the functions. I left him with an assignment involving polynomials."
"The student's class has switched to a geometry unit, which was much more intuitive for the student. He did very well completing his page of homework, which involved using the Pythagorean Theorem to find the lengths of sides of various right triangles."
"The student and I went over several problems in Chapter 9, which dealt with series. We evaluated the convergence or divergence of particular series using the derivative test, integral test, alternating series test, geometric series, and ratio test. These were all practice problems for her upcoming Chapter 9 exam."
