Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In our most recent session, the student and I reviewed concepts regarding finding the perimeter of a number of polygons. I was happy to learn that he received an 80 on the math exam he took this past Tuesday, a thirty point improvement from his last exam."
"We continued to do practice problems from differentiation and practice tests. The student has the basics down and is more than willing to attempt each problem. Moving forward he will do more practice tests, recover the remaining material to solidify his understanding, and ask more questions to his school's calculus teacher. He is excelling with each session."
"Today we reviewed the student's exam, discussing the interpretation of values and the way to formula null and alternate hypotheses for sample proportion tests. We drilled the procedure for computing test statistics for one and two sample mean and proportion tests."
"We worked on number lines. He's struggling understanding how to count up and down on number lines by any distances other than 1. We're also working on understanding the relationship between fractions, division, and multiplication as well."
"Today was our first session. We spent some time talking about his classroom, what it looks like, and what he wants to work on. We reviewed the definition of functions, the vertical line test, slope-intercept form, and finding the rate of change. We tried some application problems and took summary notes on how to identify the different parts of a function and how to connect them in the context of a function."
"Today the student and I began our session with goal setting. He chose to set his goal fairly low at 4 stars. I expressed my disappointment, but did not make him change it because I am trying to emphasize that he should set goals for himself. We worked on pictograph questions and subtracting from 100. He did well answering the pictograph questions and earned two stars rather quickly. He started struggling when we got to the subtracting from 100 questions. However, once I modeled a few problems, he demonstrated understanding of the strategy and was able to solve several with no issues. He earned 7 stars this session, matching his best session (this included a bonus star for completing more work than the previous week). I had him set his goal for the next session right after this one and he set it for 9 stars. I wrote it on his folder so we wouldn't forget."
