Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on the student's homework. Specifically, we worked on inflection points and concavity."
"We went over finding Expected value, Variance, and Standard deviation as well as deriving probability integrals. On her last quiz she got a 10/10. No concerns."
"Today we did a mini lesson on how the integral is used in calculus to find the "area" under any given curve. Throughout tutoring the student I sometimes will reinforce older concepts such as function notation, algebra manipulation and a review of certain functions. All of these ideas were necessary to understand how the integral works and she caught on rather quickly. We also reviewed U-Substitution and touched on how to identify when to use certain anti-derivative rules."
"We went over more about derivatives and also a brief review of limits. I left the student with problems from last week's session and he got all of them correct. He was also showing good retention whenever something from last week came up in a new problem this week. I again left him with another set of problems to try before next week's session."
"We covered average rate of change, supply and demand, and mainly exponential functions. I left them with the extra practice problems we did not cover."
"For our first session this weekend, the student and I went through all of the material in her textbook that she had missed this week. We mainly focused on the various methods of differentiation, the conceptual meaning of the derivative, and some applications of the derivative. We worked through examples using the power, product, and quotient rules in conjunction, as well as the rules for differentiating trig functions. Additionally, we discussed what exactly the derivative meant in relation to an average rate of change and the visual representation on a graph. We applied these ideas to a physical example, to provide relatable insight into the behaviors/forms of derivatives."
