Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued our unit on fractions. The last part of the unit was dividing fractions and mixed numbers so I reviewed that and gave him practice problems. Then we moved on how to solve different kinds of word problems and determining which operations to use to solve them."
"During this session I guided the student through a project she had from her teacher, all tied around the integral of exp(-x^20 from -infinity to plus infinity, with some interesting variations. We had to apply double integration and change to polar coordinates. In the process, we reviewed improper integrals, the methods of substitution and integration by parts and L'Hopital's rule for eliminating indeterminations. I was happy to see the student enjoying working and appreciating the results obtained."
"The student and I prepared for his midterm by going over his study guide. We focused on problems we knew would be on the midterm, such as revolutions of solids, areas between curves, arc length, and surface area problems. We also looked at integration by parts and integrating trig functions. There was a lot of material on the guide, but we did well at hitting the important parts."
"The client is taking introductory statistics in college and needed help learning correlation and multiple regression. We went over examples in his textbook and practiced making scatterplots, calculating r statistics, looking up critical values, making decisions about linear relationships and calculating regression equations."
"We completed work on the stats take home test. Tackled especially difficult problems. However, we were able to incorporate learning from our previous session and use the graphing calculator to check our work."
"We covered T-tests. The student was struggling with setting up null and alternate hypotheses but was getting very good by the end of the session. Also, he was very comfortable with running the stats and interpreting the results"
