Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for her test on Newton's second law and third laws of motion, net force, acceleration, the graphical relationship between acceleration and mass, and mass and force."
"Covered more on acids/bases redox reactions dealing with balancing equations and computing the amount of voltage from chemical reactions listed on voltage tables of half-reactions."
"Great first session with the student! We worked on physics concepts in sound waves - Doppler effect, pitch, timbre. We also went over some conic section problems for Algebra."
"Today we covered DNA replication including the steps, proteins involved, and differences between leading and lagging strands. We also reviewed the bulk of biochemistry including chemical foundations, polarity, bonds, intermolecular and intramolecular forces. We then covered water properties, pH, isomers, functional groups, condensation synthesis, and hydrolysis. We discussed organic molecules and their importance, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. The student has a good grasp of the material. I encouraged her to review the material, especially for biology, because it is very important to internalize it. If there are other topics to discuss, we will go over them tomorrow."
"The student was really focused tonight and did very well. First we went through his worksheet on acids and bases so that it was completed for class, and then we started on the Semester 2 Review packet. He picked up on the trends for acids and bases very quickly, and when we started the review packet he was a lot more confident with some of the concepts he has struggled with in the past. He is starting to be able to apply facts and solve problems in chemistry, definitely steadily improving."
"We went over a few practice AP exams. We talked most about rotational momentum and linear momentum. He was having trouble going from one to the other. However, with some work he was able to do it. I had given him a practice problem on the subject that he had struggled with a few weeks ago. He did very well on this problem today, showing that he understands the concept better. The student was very attentive today and did a great job."
