Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began work on her online linguistics course, watching the first lecture, reading the syllabus and class policies, and working through the first two participation quizzes. We made plans to meet regularly to work through class assignments, and will meet next on Tuesday."
"The student was preparing for her exam in AP Latin, so we spent our time looking over the material that exam will cover. We focused mainly on translating the text, but also on analyzing the grammar of different parts of the sentence. For example, I would ask the student to identify the main verb in each clause of the sentence we were dealing with, and we would often then break down its person and number. Once we'd done that, we would seek out the subject that goes with the main verb, which would have to match the number of the verb and also be in nominative case. We worked through a large part of the text that the student had gone through prior to our first session, so I think she should be fairly well versed in those portions. This session, she was much more confident in identifying the main verbs for each clause than she had been in our last session. She missed a few, but mainly because she misidentified a participle, which is a form of a verb, as the main verb. She also did fairly well at identifying the subjects going with the verbs, though third declension nouns are giving her some trouble."
"The student and I reviewed her only homework assignment sheet of the day, then I did dictations on this week's vocab. She did very well, and made only a few mistakes the first time and made almost no mistakes at the second time. She understood the meanings pretty well too. Good job!"
