Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started by finishing an essay we outlined earlier this week about the Scramble for Africa. She had written two solid pages about the topic and we expanded on those with specific details about the Boer War and Leopold II's claiming of the Congo. She ended the essay with the conclusion she had already written. Next she and I moved onto an essay about the outbreak of World War I. I thought we had a particularly great session today while working on this essay! We started by outlining the events leading up to WWI, and she relied on my narrative and her book to explain the details. After getting the information down, I challenged her to come up with her own historical argument for the thesis and conclusion. She did an absolutely fantastic job of analyzing the complicated material. She decided that the dismissal of Otto von Bismark and the collapse of his system of alliances was a major factor in the outbreak of WWI, and I absolutely agree. It was great to see her do such complex analysis on her own; she's really growing as a student of history. We are planning to meet again in two weeks."
"The student has the class exam for this course tomorrow so we prepared for that in our session tonight. Next week we will begin working on the actual exam coming up in soon."
"The student and I continued to work on his project. The review work we are doing is also in preparation for the upcoming assessment test. We finished 5 essay outlines today!"
