Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed properties of acid-base solutions and reviewed some problems from the student's homework."
"We reviewed periodicity and the periodic table and then worked on acid/base chemistry. He seemed to be doing pretty well with everything."
"The student wanted to review for his test, which was on the same material we covered the night before: chemical equilibria. We did a couple practice problems and then went through everything on his study guide to make sure he understood it. This began with the definition of equilibrium, both macro- and microscopically, as well as the different qualities of acids and bases (i.e. taste, feel, and reactions with metals). We discussed the different definitions of acids: Arrhenius, Bronsted-Lowry, Lewis, and proper nomenclature. We then went over solubility and the determination of solubility for ions and Ksp values. This involved an explanation of the common-ion effect, which took some explaining, but he was able to describe it back to me after thorough explanation with a couple of examples. Several practice problems were done as well. At the end, I gave him an improvised, multi-faceted practice problem that involved several elements of his review, and then gave him a short quiz."
