Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Talked about finding asymptotes of rational functions. Discussed "long term behavior" and how to find horizontal asymptotes. Introduced exponential and logarithmic functions. Assigned homework."
"The student had completed about half of her physics homework assigned over break and the first page of her 20-page pre-calc packet. We focused primarily on the precalculus material, as there were many problems she did not know how to do. Once I asked her guiding questions to help her remember a specific concept, she was able to complete several similar problems independently. Topics covered graphing of trigonometric functions, using trig identities, and writing periodic functions to solve word problems. There was one physics problem that we worked on, and the algebra required for that physics problem seemed to be creating a barrier for her. I helped her set up her equations, and we discussed some algebra review, but I asked her to keep working on it on her own and email me if she needed help. She will continue working on her physics and pre-calc homework during her snow days."
"We worked on vector dot products, vector magnitudes, and vector functions. We did quiz prep for complex numbers."
"We covered topics that mainly focused on maximizing or minimizing volumes or areas of geometric shapes. The student was focused and excited to learn about derivatives of this type. We spent most of our time on a review of a homework set that, while challenging, was quite satisfying to get through."
"We went over the student's packet on polynomial inequalities and the signs of polynomials. The student is steadily increasing his abilities to learn and solve problems. The session went great."
"We continued working on the problems from one of the student's exams from early in the semester. We finished where we left off yesterday and quickly completed the remainder of the exam problems. We spent the remainder of the session working on study guides for previous exams. We went through problems one-by-one to assess whether the student knew how to reach the solution, or if she wasn't sure we would work through the problem. For the first exam review sheet we only needed to work on a handful of the problems - and even with those problems she could contribute good input. She is definitely sharp on the material from that unit in the class. We will continue working through study guides for the other exams during our next session tomorrow!"
