Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did pretty well on the English section of the test that we covered today. He said he realized that he had rushed his way through the test when he had taken it previously. Now he realizes that he needs to be more focused, slow down, and look at the question and answer selections more deliberately. I love how he is using techniques and he is slowing down and becoming responsible for his own success."
"The first part of today's tutoring lesson was spent reviewing the student's Chapter 4 algebra test. Specifically, he redid the algebraic word problems from the Chapter 4 algebra test that he took at school last semester. Next, we reviewed how to write a standard 5 paragraph essay. We worked with this specific topic: Are you for or against mandatory school uniforms? He copied my notes on how to organize a 5-paragraph essay. After this review on how to write a standard 5-paragraph essay, he wrote his own first paragraph on the topic. He took the position that he was against mandatory school uniforms. His introductory paragraph was well written, and his three specific detail sentences were interesting and well thought out. For the final part of today's tutoring lesson, he and I did vocabulary development. We went over ten specific vocabulary words and then he took a short, twenty-question quiz / review on the 10 vocabulary words he just learned. On this first vocabulary quiz he scored 100%. We concluded today's lesson by reviewing an additional 10 vocabulary words. After we reviewed the second set of 10 vocabulary words, he took a second, twenty-question quiz on the words he had just learned. Again, he scored 100%. He is a very bright student. He is easy-going and always focused on the task at hand. Thus, our tutoring session was very productive."
"This was the first session with the student. The instruction was used as diagnostic material to gauge where the student currently needs the most help. Comprehension seems to be high. We must work on getting him to be able to express all of his knowledge in a cohesive manner."
