"Today the student and I wrapped up her chapter on imperialism with two long essays. The first asked her to compare modernization in Japan and Egypt. We decided to outline the essay and started by writing two body paragraphs on Japan and Egypt. After that we worked on the intro and conclusion and she crafted a great thesis about how Egypt's economic irresponsibility allowed the British to establish a colonial hold over the country. After that we moved onto a very expansive essay on the "Scramble for Africa" in the late 1800s. Since the topic was broad, I encouraged her to focus on the elements that interest her most. We crafted an essay about the idea of "new imperialism"- the idea of building national pride around colonial expansion. We got a chance to work on her analysis skills by looking at a map of colonial holdings in Africa and drawing conclusions to put in her essay. We had a very productive session and she did great work."
"The student and I covered part of the Baroque period of art and she made her study cards as we studied the PowerPoint presentation."
"We worked through the material discussing the aftermath of WWII. The focus was about the early development of the cold war and the economic recovery in Europe."
