Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over concepts involved in triangle inequalities. I recommend that she reviews the topics, as she needed guidance from me through most problems. She seemed to understand all concepts once explained."
"We began reviewing the past three sections (infinite series, absolute convergence, and power series). Student had all of his previous work with him so we went over the questions he had the most trouble with. He just needed help thinking of more options for proofs and making creative measures towards proofs. When I suggested other options for him, he was able to take the advice and create satisfactory proofs and understand the thought process behind them. After going over the problems, I told him to study all of his graded work in preparation for his upcoming test. He takes the test on Monday."
"During our session, the student and I covered geometry, specifically chapter eight in her textbook. Her teacher offered her a chance to re-take a section on her test, therefore we focused on that section for most of the session. We went through the examples in the book, then we solved problems at the end of the chapter for practice and to reinforce the concepts she would encounter on the test. We also made a study guide together so that she could review everything we covered in a condensed, easy-to-read form. She seemed very confident by the end of the session!"
"This session duplicated our previous effort in that we worked through the work for a section and covered it exhaustively. There were a large number of truth tables produced while we dealt with "nand" and "nor" before finding disparate truth statements with identical outcomes and then determining whether some statements were tautologies, contradictions, or neither. We'll meet again Thursday."
"The student wanted to go over derivatives and qualitative graphs for her quiz on Thursday. She has a good understanding on calculus thus far and wanted to be challenged a bit more. We went over product rule, quotient rule, and I introduced her to chain rule even though she had not learned it yet. The quotient rule strategy I mentioned was similar to the one she had learned so she was strong in solving those problems. With a little more practice tomorrow with the power rule, I'm sure she will ace her upcoming quiz. She has not memorized the derivatives of the trig functions so she must do that soon as well."
"We reviewed the study guide for chapter 2 and did some additional review. We all previewed the next chapter and looked at some of the basic terms so the girls would have some background understanding when the new chapter started at school."
