Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, we worked mainly on Spanish and orchestra. The student is learning the preterite tense in Spanish. We discussed the usage of this tense versus the imperfect tense, and conjugation for "-ar" verbs. She practiced conjugation. We also went over question words and phrases. For orchestra, we worked on drafting the performance paper. She had a full outline, and we used the rubric to set up the draft. She will finish this for our next session."
"For our last session of the year, the student and I reviewed for his science exam. We discussed questions from his science study guide regarding data collection and basic astronomy. He felt very comfortable with the material. He clearly had a firm grasp of the material he had learned during the past semester."
"The student arranged for two consecutive sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, given his finals schedule on Thursday and Friday of this week. In our first session, we studied for his English essay final, which consists of a passage and prompt followed by 2 hours to write an essay in class. He doesn't do well with impromptu handwritten essays, so we spent the time going over strategies to improve his writing. We looked up writing prompts and he practiced writing actual topic paragraphs, which we then dissected for learning opportunities. We compiled a list of things to remember during writing tests, such as use of capital letters and punctuation, avoiding run-on sentences by detecting overuse of conjunctions, and using the given passage to check spelling of common words."
"We review his week and assignments. The student showed me an improved score on an assignment he received back. We made flashcards with vocabulary and formulas. I gave him practice problems, and he had to choose the correct formula to use to work each problem."
"Tutorial Focus: Study Skills - Chemistry and Geometry In this session, geometry homework was reviewed. Supplementary angles were discussed. Naming adjacent and supplementary angles was the skill practiced through the homework task. In the subject area of chemistry, elements were reviewed. The elements reviewed in this session were boron, silicon, arsenic, and tellurium. Each element name and abbreviation were reviewed."
"We accomplished quite a bit in tonight's session. We studied for the student's math test, he worked on his Spanish homework, finished his health homework, and we started reviewing for his science test that is at the end of this week."
