"Today we went over the homework covering piece-wise functions. We specifically looked at determining traits of the function and drawing a sketch of the piece-wise function. She easily determined domains, y-intercept, and zeros. She was having some trouble determining end behavior and extreme points. We looked at all of the free response homework problems which went over these aspects. I explained to her how to determine end behavior and find extreme points via critical values with piece-wise functions. After working through the problems she had a much better understanding. I felt that she was grasping the ideas and felt comfortable with it by the end of our session. I did notice that some derivative rules (specifically the quotient rule) get forgotten when she isn't using them in problems regularly. I think extra practice going over those rules will help solidify them in her mind for future use. I will make a point of having her go over those rules with me in our next session. Overall, she is doing well with the work."
"The student worked on his homework which covered calculated revolutions per units of time using distance and speed. He understands this topic very well."
"We went over equations for circles in center-radius form. We also reviewed how to rewrite quadratic functions in perfect square form. We also went over how to use a graphing calculator to plot statistical data as well as how to find regression lines and curves. We also went over some basics for calculator use."
"The student and I met to focus on solids of revolution. We spent our time deconstructing the shell method. Her confidence has grown considerably as we have been working together, and it has been great to see her increasingly moving towards independent, lifelong learning."
"The student and I went over her fourth test. She scored in the 90's and was very pleased. She's planning on retaking her third test in the next few days and plans to focus on checking and rechecking her work. We also went back and began reviewing for the final by correcting old homework assignments. We will begin a more in-depth review next meeting, after we go over her 3rd test retake."
"We worked on the student's current PreCalc workbook. We finished the lesson on transformations of functions, and then did the teaching/ learning, but not all the practice problems for the lesson on even and odd functions. We agreed she would finish those practice problems so that we could discuss them next time. Thursday I will start by verbally quizzing her on the material from yesterday before proceeding to the next lesson."
