Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I continued to work on what we had worked on yesterday (negative numbers, simplification), and I also worked with her to understand how to calculate the area of triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids and unusually shaped figures composed of right angles. She did very well with area problems and she now seems more comfortable calculating the perimeter and area of a wide variety of shapes. Geometry seems to come naturally to her, and she seems to be a visual learner. We spent the last half hour of the session working on writing. She was able to answer the essay prompt well and begin an outline."
"The student and I began with an overview of the ISEE - the format of the exam, what to expect, things to keep in mind while taking the exam and a review of various test-taking strategies we had focused on throughout our sessions. We then moved on to additional math practice problems, also focusing on different strategies and tips for selecting the correct answer. He did very well overall with these problems, which were a mix of word problems, ratios, percentages and charts/graphs. He was focused and confident when approaching each problem. We continued with verbal reasoning and reading comprehension strategies and practice problems, emphasizing the importance of reading each question completely and understanding the context of each passage. We ended by discussing some strategies for approaching the essay. Overall a very good session."
"Today we had a very productive session. The first portion of the lesson was entirely dedicated to mathematical reasoning--mostly focusing on fractions, probability, and coordinate geometry. The second part of the lesson was dedicated to verbal reasoning preparation. Overall, he was focused, worked hard, and continues to improve."
