Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In my first session with the student we discussed where she is at in her classes, what her goals are for these three classes, and her schedule. She is taking language arts, science, and math. Math is what she is most confident with, and language arts is the area she needs to practice the most. Once we had our plan set out and I had taken a look at the scope of all of the classes/the schedule we worked on a language arts assignment involving a short story, and did one section from her Unit 1 of math. Before we meet on Wednesday she is going to do several sections of math and brainstorm topics for her next two language arts writing assignments."
"The first portion of the session allowed the tutor and the student to work on biology. The student was correcting a quiz that he took earlier in the week. The student and the tutor went over the questions on the quiz and clarified areas where he had difficulty. The section portion of the session covered an upcoming vocabulary quiz for the student's English class. We covered the 25 vocabulary words that will be on the upcoming quiz."
"In today's lesson, I worked with the student on both his English and his American history homework. After asking him what he had done over the last week in both classes, I looked at his online syllabus/class website. I had him show me a short paper he had written and turned in last week, and I pointed out some errors in grammar, usage and tone. I made some suggestions as to how to improve it, and also explained the difference between definite and indefinite articles in English. We then reviewed his American history work, in particular two brief Revolutionary War pamphlets he had to analyze, and I helped him expand upon his ideas."
