Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was devoted to a review of the material for the semester in preparation for his upcoming midterm exam. He was able to complete all of the problems with minimal reminders from me about algebra errors or how to approach a multi-step problem."
"We reviewed the student's pre-calc homework, which included recognizing transformations in functions. She did very well!"
"Covered Chapter 8: Polar Coordinates and Vectors; Sect. 8.1: The Cross Product; dot product; conversion from polar coordinates to rectangle coordinates; did Chapter 8 Review Exercises"
"Today, the student and I worked on triangle word problems and test corrections. First, we reviewed her worksheet that involved constructing a triangle with a directional orientation. We discussed the importance of drawing a compass at the top of the page for reference. With this concept, she immediately grasped the concept. We moved forward to complete all but one of her test corrections. Finally, we discussed what material she needed to review prior to her quizzes (review trig functions, work through test problems again, etc.). Keep up the good work!"
"We covered the law of cosines involving the possibility of two triangles. From this, we talked about strategies to draw the two triangles together and then also separately (making sure to keep them to scale!). We also talked about finding the height of a scalene triangle, where it is important to use the right triangle made by the height and SOH CAH TOA. In preparation for the test, we talked about some review strategies, including annotating on the review sheet in a different colored pen what mistakes could have been made to prevent them from happening in the future."
"This session focused on Pre-calculus, where the student needed help understanding equations that described parabolas, circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas. She just needed clarification on what certain parts of those equations represent and how to tell if they describe a certain characteristic of a hyperbola or ellipse. After the session, she felt confident enough to do the rest of the homework on her own."
