Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued to discuss phrases and grammar that will be useful to the student in his workplace. We first focused on reviewing the preterit. After some initial help, he seemed to remember the conjugations. We then looked again at direct objects and constructing questions. While these had been tough concepts in the past, he seems to have understood and processed them and did well with them today. Overall, I'm happy to see his progress and urge him to keep practicing."
"I went over "ser" and "estar", the differences, when they are used (I gave her two mnemonic devices for both) and their conjugations (I gave her two different rhythms to remember them as well). We reviewed subject pronouns using TPR, -ar, -er and -ir verbs' conjugations and stem-changing verbs. She is going to review everything for our next class."
"During this session, I tested the student on some of the vocabulary words I had taught her in previous lessons. She remembered most of them. After I asked her to explain how the preterite tense is used and I then reviewed with her more specifically how this tense it is used. I then introduced the imperfect tense and reviewed the conjugation rules with her. Lastly, I had her practice conjugating the imperfect tense and she did very well. I asked her to reread the last passage I left her for homework and to identify the imperfect verbs, and to read the second half of the passage and identify both the preterite and imperfect verbs."
"First we worked on the student's homework assignment where she had to conjugate pensar. She did well and it went quickly. Then we reviewed vocab and grammar briefly for her test tomorrow. She needs to review vocab some more. Grammar went pretty well. Then we started looking back in the book to begin reviewing for the final. Most of the information was pretty basic, and she did pretty well with it."
"I helped the student study for his Spanish final tonight by going over his study guide with him, and completing it with him. The study guide covered basic grammar and vocab (numbers, dates, months, days of the week, personal details, school subjects, etc.). I quizzed him on each of them, and then guided him toward all the correct answers."
"During today's session we learned the days of the week, the months, and the seasons. We also learned the verbs etre and avoir in both the past and present tense. We next learned the different parts of the body, including eyes, hair, hand, etc. We also went over the difference between "est-et", as well as sounds including ch, ou, and on. This student is a pleasure to teach and he did well during the session."
