Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For two hours, we studied AP biology test prep sections 1 through 3. Topic 1 dealt with biochemistry, topic 2 covered the cell, and topic 3 included metabolism. We skipped to the end of the topics to solve the questions, and reviewed the materials to review the contents. The student showed no difficulty on the problems, but reviewed concepts that were unclear."
"Today, the student wanted to have a review of topics for the AP physics exam that she is planning to take next Tuesday. I briefly covered all the topic from dimensional units through magnetism, and had just begun inductors. Next time, we will cover inductors, waves, and geometric optics. Also, I will be sending her some AP practice exams."
"The student needed to catch up to his physics class in electromagnetism. We talked about the forces on a charged particle from moving in a B field (F = qvxB) and an E field (F = qE), as well as how to figure cross products from two vectors' being rows of a 3x3 matrix, or from simple vector representations. We also started with Ampere's Law (B = u0 * I / 2(pi) * r) and figured magnetic fields resulting from currents going in different directions. He learned about using the right hand rule to both figure directions of cross product vectors and directions of the B field around a current. In all of the above, once I had shown him how to do a problem, I had him do it in turn, so that he can gain proficiency with the solution methods. We'll meet again at 1 pm tomorrow, and I'll schedule the appointment."
"We worked on problems about magnetic force and electric force. Most of the problems were parts of a mass spectrometer: velocity selector and magnetic field only region. I showed the student how to use the right hand rule, including for negative charge, and she caught on quickly. I also showed her how to use work to find velocity or potential difference. She made great progress during the session."
"The student and I worked on concepts that would be covered on her upcoming exam. The exam was mostly concerned with plant biology. We discussed plant hormones, response to stimuli, transport of water and nutrients, and plant reproduction. She was feeling nervous for the exam, but she seemed more confident at the end of the tutoring session."
"Walked through all metabolisms and the possible functional groups that can undergo those metabolisms."
