Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed geometric mean for the entire time and flirted with using quadratics to solve more complicated geometric mean problems. After our session he seemed much more confident in working those specific problems."
"We spent our time together reviewing a set of assigned geometry problems that involved using a compass and straight edge to perform a variety of operations on an initial drawing such that one could create such objects as a golden rectangle and equilateral pentagon. The session went well and the student developed a strong comfort and expertise level with both the physical operations as well as an understanding of their purpose and meaning. The student also spent time learning about the relationship between the spiral that a nested series of golden rectangles can create and a variety of forms in nature, like the shell of the nautilus. This she seemed especially interested in and excited about."
"We worked on reviewing for the student's test. These materials focus on identifying quadrilaterals by name, by the characteristics they have, and calculating area. She was fine with identifying the quadrilaterals. The student is challenged with the "sometimes, never, always" questions. I suggested slowing down on those questions as a strategy. The student needs to memorize the equations for the different areas, (e.g. rhombus, trapezoid, square, rectangle, parallelogram, triangle, kite...) to improve her test taking."
"We focused on the student's Geometry homework. We covered calculating perimeters and areas of parallelograms, rhombuses, kites, and trapezoids. His final grades were posted and he received an A- in Spanish, B in Geometry, and B+ in Physics."
"Today was our first session, so we briefly discussed the syllabus and accessing class information online. We also briefly talked about quizzes and tests to date. The lesson for today covered right triangles. It particularly covered similar right triangles and relationships between segments. In addition, we solved for various unknowns using methods learned in class such as HLLP and PAAP. We also working on strengthening fundamental knowledge or right triangles such as the Pythagorean Theorem. Most of the focus of today was recent material that he will be quizzed over on Monday."
"The student worked on his homework, page 361 #1-8, and a review worksheet for his upcoming chapter test on exterior angles and similar triangles."
