Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on some bar graphs, and this skill is becoming very strong. The student can create a bar graph given a group of pictures, and she can use a bar graph to create a group of pictures. We also used coins as manipulatives to count by 5s and 10s"
"We reviewed all of his graded assignments that had incorrect problems. We discussed strategies to eliminate wrong answer choices based on the information given. We talked about the importance of taking his time and being seriously focused on every assignment. This will assist with identifying his actual weak areas and making the most of our tutoring session."
"I checked over the student's homework. After he corrected his mistakes, I had him complete a worksheet in his book consisting of borrowing, division, basic equations, etc. He did a decent job. At the end of the session we played a brief game of chess."
"We reviewed equivalent fractions. I asked him to draw a model like the one he sees in his textbook so he can compare fractions and he can see the differences. We worked on his study guide, where we ordered fractions from least to greatest or greatest to least. I see him trying and understanding the topic."
"We reviewed the student's homework, which included area and perimeter. We also reviewed the parts of a circle (radius, diameter, and chord). We reviewed right, obtuse and acute angles, isosceles and scalene triangles, and what makes a simple, closed shape, and what does not. The area and perimeter were to prepare the student for shapes that did not have only 4 sides or were simple rectangles. He demonstrated his knowledge of the concepts through repeated review of these concepts. He picked up the concepts quickly and was able to answer questions of definitions and was able to give examples. He continues to demonstrate that he is able to comprehend the concepts quickly. This is a big win."
"We worked on slowing down and checking our work. She showed me her new multiplication skills. We worked on a few multiplication problems as well as 2 and 3 digit addition/subtraction. Her math processes are speeding up and she is able to do them more quickly, I have noticed. :)"
