Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed in preparation for her upcoming chapter test. Topics covered included: describing changes from a parent parabolic function, and solving polynomials for zeroes through factoring."
"The student has a test this afternoon that we reviewed for. We went through many practice problems on her course website and worked until she was comfortable on each topic."
"Today the student worked on her homework which was also meant for a review for an upcoming test. The first concept that we cleared up is that the term slope can be seen as many things. The ones we focused on were y=mx+b, rise/run and y2-y1/x2-x1. Next, I helped her understand that the reason y goes on top and the x on the bottom is because rise/run states that the vertical variable (which are found on the y axis) goes on top and the horizontal variable, also known as X, goes on the bottom."
"The student did very well today. He is feeling more comfortable subtracting from a negative number and defining a variable for a word problem. He is very good at doing math in his head and is fun to teach. He got a ninety on his math test last week that we prepared for and was happy with his score."
"The student is taking a transitional algebra class in order to take algebra next year. This first session we covered ordered pairs, graphing, and independent versus dependent variables. The relation between the independent and dependent variable on a graph was emphasized in order to show the relation between different ordered pairs on the graph."
"We did a little more work on sets today. The student is now working on the idea of intersections and unions of sets. He was able to pick up the idea quickly. There was one problem that was a bit different from his other questions which took some extra time. It involved using an equation of an inequality with absolute values and representing the solutions."
