Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we started to review for the student's upcoming test on chapters 13 and 14. We also did some review of basic integration and differentiation so he could really hone those skills. He seems to understand the majority of the information with the exception of some of the material in 14.1 (contours and drawing functions and domains). I made a review sheet of the types of problems that should be on his test and we will look over that together in our next session."
"We did an extended word problem which the student told me was a quarterly assignment. The student was enthusiastic. The only concern I have is I would like her to write a bit more neatly so she can review her work afterwards."
"We covered five sections in chapter eleven dealing with logarithms. We dealt with properties of logs and the base number change formula. He grasps the overall concept of logarithms very well but continues to make simple computational errors in his solutions. He corrected these and successfully completed all the odd number questions in his workbook. We have to continue to work slowly and methodically with checks on every line of work to reduce these kind of errors. He has a good start into next week, so we will skip the next session and resume the week after with a new topic or prep for a test."
"The student had an open assignment tonight to study for her upcoming math test. Her goal was to add and subtract algebraic expressions. We have been working on this, and the student is raising her success rate. I also had her practice proper distributing, so that she is ready for her test on Thursday."
"We conducted a review of finding lengths of secant, and tangent lines of a circle. We then moved on to formulas for chords within a circle. We also conducted a review of the past concepts of angles and arcs, and intersecting secant and tangent lines. I also introduced concepts of segments and sector equation definitions for area and length. The student was tasked to complete assignments with secant and tangent problems outside of the session."
"The student completed three whole pages of his work. The primary concepts covered this session were place value and adding two digit numbers with number lines."
