"I worked with the student to complete the homework for chapter 7.7. We worked on some of the harder problems out of the book and she completed the homework assignment. I also discussed with his mom how to access the online learning tools that we can utilize at our meeting on Sunday."
"In this session we spent the majority of the time going over transverse lines and truth tables. I also showed the student how we can use one simple concept and apply it to more complex concepts, like how we can use supplementary angles to find the unknown angles that are made by a transverse line passing through two parallel lines. From there I emphasized how we can recognize patterns as we solve for the angles, which is where I introduced vertical angles. When we moved on to truth tables. He was trying to memorize the T's and F's in the table, but I showed him how every table is different and broke down the steps needed to solve the table. We covered the basic 3 operators: negation, and, and or. He had a bit of trouble understanding what these meant at first, but once he worked through a few problems, he got the hang of it."
"We went over a variety of subjects; we were preparing for and going over questions for the student's semester exam. We covered parabolas, shifts in radical functions, inverses, specific cases for factoring trinomials, finding zeros of polynomials, quadratics, domain, range, regression, and reading and interpreting data on a graph. There wasn't really any one topic that she was having problems with; it was mostly just needing a refresher on most of it so that she could remember how to do the work. She had a good attitude. One of the strategies we discussed and used frequently when dealing with data sets was to sketch a quick graph if you don't know what else to do, because it will help interpret the data and could help you see what next step to take with the problem."
"The student and I are continuing with consistent practice and reinforcement of her lessons. We worked on problem solving using triangle and circle properties. We will be meeting twice a week, so improvement remains consistent."
"The student had an excellent session and we succeeded in tackling several worksheets that involved linear equations and graphs, finding the slope given two points, determining if lines were parallel or perpendicular, and solving equations of the circle. I like how he takes on his math challenges like he takes on rock climbing; he ignores setbacks and just gets up and goes at it again."
"Today I had the student work through problems from sections 6-4 and 6-5 out of his book. Section 6-4 focused on the properties of rhombuses and rectangles while 6-5 focused on the properties of trapezoids and kites. Many of the problems I had him work through involved making use of the properties in order to calculate side lengths or angle measures of a given figure. Others required that he identify a figure that obeyed a given set of properties. He did quite well with problems of the first type and had only minor struggles with problems of the second type. For homework, I asked him to work through some quizzes online related to the topics we covered today."
