Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With the student's marked improvement on the standardized portion of the test, I wanted to go over the essay portion so that he could improve there as well. Based on reading a short story he had written about a turkey that did not want to be eaten over Thanksgiving, I already knew he was a creative, advanced writer. I gave him a sample question to work on between our last session and today's. He had a fabulously written response. All he needed was a guiding hand to show him the basic 5 paragraph structure that the graders will be looking for. That is what we worked on for the entirety of the session. By the end, he had produced high quality work that I could easily see coming from a high school student."
"The student and I spent some time covering math related topics. Mainly, we focused on converting improper fractions into mixed numbers, adding/subtracting and multiplying fractions. This was followed by shorter activities that worked on the student's ability to solve equations for a given variable. We also, briefly covered a few statistics and geometry related questions. In the latter part of the session we did a brief verbal review, then we looked at some flash cards."
"Tonight was the end of the student's session with me. He and I discussed, defined, and wrote sentences for 21 new vocabulary words from his workbook after reviewing the previous words. I advised his mother to go over the first ten of those words with the student tomorrow and the next ten the next day. After that, I created a math review for him containing double-digit multiplication and adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, which have been a challenge point for him. He completely understands how to multiply double-digits."
