Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"She has an exam. We went through her review problems. She was really worried about memorizing all of the equations. We went through each equation, and I showed her how they were derived from other equations she already knew. I told her she needed to make sure to review ellipses and hyperbolas a little more after I left. She is doing well with the information and definitely has the skills to do the work. She should do well on her exam tomorrow."
"The student sent me an activity he worked on in class regarding finding the areas of various shapes and figures. The dimensions all involved decimals so there was some tricky math. We then practiced some surface areas of cubes, pyramids, and rectangular prisms. I added some decimals also to ensure he got some additional practice with his math!"
"The student worked a lot with r-controlled vowels, handwriting, and reading comprehension. He is still struggling with understanding what he's reading. He is working very hard to sound out words. I am trying to help him develop the habit of pointing at his words. He worked very hard."
"The student was a pleasure to work with. She seemed eager and opened up very quickly. She and her mom were concerned with her writing. She reads very well but expressed that she wasn't as confident in writing. For this session, we worked on underlining keys words, sentences, and phrases. She did well. We also worked on summarizing things as we read, to make sure she had an understanding. During the next session we will work on math."
"I met this student today and we discussed areas she struggles in with math. Today we were going over tests she had taken. The first one was dealing with fractions. We discussed drawing fractions using unit bars and how they had to be the same size to compare. We also talked about equivalent fractions and how to create and simplify. Towards the end, we were going over prime numbers, factors, and multiples. She is a sweet girl. She understands lattice multiplication, area and perimeter."
"Today, we covered probability, fractions, and finding the area of rectangles and triangles. The student breezed through the practice problems, where she had to find the area of a rectangle. I then talked for a moment about converting fractions to percentages with her, and I will incorporate that later down the road. She is now touching on fractions in her class, but because she picks up new material very quickly, I have decided that I will focus on fractions now so she can be ahead in class."
