Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I studied together for his upcoming Chemistry midterm. We went over each section and created notes from which he could use to study. Topics we went over included limits, continuity, the definition of a derivative, the derivative power rule, applications of the derivative to business problems, simultaneous functions, graphing simultaneous functions, and the fourstep process for finding derivatives. After we created complete conceptual review sheets, we proceeded to do a few practice problems for each topic."
"Today the student and I discussed the present perfect subjunctive. I checked over her homework and then gave her some practice sentences using the tense. We did some oral speaking practice using the tense before we spent about ten minutes practicing conversational Spanish. I also had her redo all of the problems she answered incorrectly on her last quiz. "
"During this session, the student and I reviewed more trigonometry, starting with the supplemental homework that I had left with her during my last visit. The student is still a little confused on when to use the Law of Sines vs. Law of Cosines, but we worked additional problems until she could determine this for herself. Afterward, we transitioned to some problems based on what she is currently covering in class, making sure to concentrate on any problems that included using trig functions to find the answer."

"Great session today. The student and I practiced her speaking skills, focusing on confidence, good transition and filler words, and problem solving strategies for expressing complex thoughts. We then dissected an AP style written article together, focusing on using contextual clues and tense clues to comprehend tricky sentences."
"The student wanted to devise a study plan for her upcoming lab project on Wednesday November 2. I proceeded to set up a step by step schedule for her to follow until our next meeting on October 31."
"The student and I reviewed information from her study session in class today for Biology. We practiced problems and reviewed difficult concepts and vocabulary."
"Worked with two students today on the verbal, reading, math, and writing sections. We identified trouble spots with interpreting passages and how to understand reading comprehension questions. I had both practice writing their own word analogies and writing prompts. I went over some math trouble spots with each, specifically geometrical misunderstandings. Both demonstrate excellent writing skills and overall are strong in their abilities."
"The student and a worked on deciphering his derivatives project. We identified the inputs needed and he was able to produce valid reasoning for choosing his volatility, Strike Price, duration, risk free rate, and underlying asset price. All he needed was a working model and will use a school computer for that. We then reviewed the theoretical answers and he was able to properly understand how to look at the broad view and come up with an acceptable answer."
"This afternoon, the student and I went through frequency table and how to construct a frequency table based on raw data. Then we went over how to build a histogram based on the frequency table. The next thing we covered was sampling data and finding mean, median and mode. Before the end of the session, we briefly went over normal distribution. The student caught on very fast and was able to apply what she learned to solve most homework problems."
"The student has her math final on Saturday. We had previously gone over a third of the information (all of chapter 1), and today we went over most of chapter 2. She just had a test on chapter 3 that she did well on, so we only have one more meeting before her final."
"Today we worked on the student's math homework, which was again focused on area and perimeter. He also begin to doing factoring trees identifying prime numbers. He was good at both of these concepts. There were some review problems in the homework that focused on some of the student's challenge areas such as fractions, decimals, and percents. He still struggled, but mostly with small computation issues rather than lack of concept knowledge. He still tends to want to rush and take short cuts toward figuring out the answer. He did pretty well overall though, on the problems we worked on together."
