Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed for chemistry safety quiz. Geometry problems: lines, planes. English: book report on "Water for Elephant," summary and critique. Gave her topics to critique on."
"Test review for tomorrow. Long division of polynomials, synthetic division, root theorems, simplifying polynomials, factoring polynomials, graphing polynomials. Student has a very good grasp of all of the concepts, but rushes with her signs."
"We reviewed one practice test section of math and one practice test session of reading comprehension. We also discussed the poetry analysis portion of the reading comprehension section of the test. We reviewed vocabulary and discussed how to set up word problems. I left him with 2 reading comprehension sections to read and a writing prompt to brainstorm and construct a thesis sentence for so we can discuss the essay more in depth next session. I also asked him to review a math section of a practice test if he has any extra time during the week. His reading comprehension and vocab/analogy scores have increased. He is also grasping several of the geometric concepts he was initially having difficulty comprehending."
"Student was preparing to take Spanish final exam on Wednesday. We reviewed main grammar points throughout book and did practice exercises on final study guide. Student felt confident and prepared to take exam."
"We went over carbonyl chemistry. The material is progressing rapidly and getting much harder, but the student seems to be keeping up fine. The material last night went over grignards and epoxides, and also some H NMR."
"The student and I went over the reading comprehension section. She was a little apprehensive about it at first, but she was doing well during timed practice. I encouraged her to keep up with the vocabulary I assigned because as of now the vocabulary seems to be the limiting factor in the questions she isn't getting right. She is doing really well seeing the logic and trends in the questions and she even said a few times that she studied a few words that came up during our session and it helped her to get the question right."
"Today Student A, Student B, and I worked through their physics homework together. We discussed free body diagrams again, but this time with an added component: friction. From these free body diagrams, we came up with net force equations and solved for applied forces and coefficients of kinetic and static friction."
"We worked on Lesson 15 and 16 of Integrated Chinese Level One Part 2 that the student is currently learning at school. Also, we discussed some Chinese writing and grammar. The student's Mandarin is very good and he is smart and highly motivated. I can see he will make fast progress in a short time."
"Completed error analysis for math portion of diagnostic. Partial error analysis of English portion of diagnostic. Discussed basic test strategies for reading section. I also gave the student exercises to do on his own for timing purposes, as he struggles to finish each section on time. Next Sunday we are going to do some exercises to help the student become aware of time spent on each question."
"The student and I continued looking at sections 4.1 through 4.6 in her book. We solved some actual problems from the book today as opposed to the True-False problems we worked last week. The problems included testing whether or not vectors can span a vector space, whether or not they are linearly dependent, and whether or not they can form a basis for a vector space."
"We worked on bucket problems. This was something they had asked me to go over because they struggled with it before I began tutoring. I then taught them about adding and subtracting matrices. Next time we will go over properties of functions, as the student requested, as well as multiplying and dividing matrices."
"The student was provided with a comprehensive list of all the vocabulary words that have been generated over the past 6 weeks for the student to be able to keep reviewing. Worked on sentence improvement, sentence errors, sentence completion, and paragraph improvement questions. I also listed out several sections in the study book that the student could continue studying in the week leading up to the exam."
