Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student began studying for her test on Friday. She is being tested on her ability to graph simple functions and also using different methods to find the roots of a quadratic equation. She did well in the review! We will continue work on her test Thursday."
"The student started on his homework in Section 10-1 in book, which covers areas of parallelograms and triangles. Then he started more homework in Section 10-2 in the book, which covers areas of trapezoids, rhombuses and kites. He had his Chapter 8 exam on Monday and understood the material."
"First, we reviewed the student's homework on areas of various polygons. Afterwards, we corrected his last math exam. We covered solving algebraic expressions and plotting numbers and inequalities on number lines. Finally, with the extra time, we went over his readings for history class."
"We covered another section in Chapter 13. The student was having a difficult time understanding different ways to plot the unit circle. We went over practice problems that involved reading sin and cos wave graphs. We did some example problems from the section in the book, then I extensively went over how to recreate/memorize the unit circle. By the end of the session, she seemed to understand everything a lot better. She was much more open about when she was confused and when she understood material compared to the first session."
"Tonight the student and I went over the basics of graphing trigonometric functions. I explained the relationship between the unit circle and the graph of these functions on the xy-plane. I think this was the most difficult point for the student, as she seemed to understand why the shapes of the graphs were why the way they were but had a hard time connecting the unit circle to these functions."
"Today we covered all topics in 7th grade math. We worked on review packets for geometry, probability, Pythagorean Theorem, analyzing graphs, and algebra concepts. Student A knew most of the material and asked clear questions when she needed help. Student B and I worked on his algebra review. He struggled with writing equations from words and then solving the system of equations. I feel he had a better grasp of the concept as we did more practice. He will also need to focus on analyzing quadratic function graphs. Overall, a good session."
