Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered a lot of ground and went over a little of each section of the test. Additionally, we found a prompt from the book, and I asked her to create an outline for writing the essay, and write as much as she could in twenty minutes. Writing a brief outline very much improved the content of her essay, and this is something that I have been emphasizing with her for the essay portion of the test. Additionally, the student's mother mentioned that her school interview was coming up on Thursday. So, we spent the last fifteen minutes of the session going over sample interview questions, and I gave her feedback on the answers that she provided. After the second round of sample questions, it was clear that she had taken a number of the pointers I had given her and used them as she was answering her questions. Overall, we had a very good session."
"We covered basic arithmetic. We had a session where our primary focus was to build on the student's core understanding as much as possible. By far, math is his best subject so I want to make sure that he is properly applying what he knows to the test. I plan on spending the next couple of sessions focusing on that."
"I had the student take a reading comprehension test. EXCELLENT! Highest grade I've seen since I started tutoring. I am wondering if she could possible conquer an upper level test. Her vocabulary is fairly good for her age, so we'll be concentrating on moving her toward synonym sight recognition and working on analogies, which she says she hasn't really seen before. We also reviewed some math skills - order of operations, multiplication tables, basic fractions - and I checked her writing sample."
