Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was my first session with the student. I have recommended some exercises for his German class, and we will work on all these things together during the sessions."
"The student has been studying German for some time now. She is going on holiday to Germany next year, and loves languages, and would like to try to reach some level of conversational ability before she leaves. She has been working through the a textbook series, and is currently in the classification B1 level. We began by putting together a study plan: she will do a chapter a week in the book, and then our lessons will focus on any questions she has about the concepts, spoken exercises with the new vocabulary and grammar, and then conversation in which we go over new areas to work on. She'll shoot for taking the B1 proficiency exam in the fall. During this first lesson, we went over declension of the definite article and uses of the four cases, as well as separable verbs, and we practiced basic conversation about where she lives and what she does. We also practiced pronunciation, particularly the u-umlaut and "e" ("AY"). For our next lesson (Thursday), she will continue in chapter 13, and I will prepare a packet on article and adjective declensions to reinforce what she has previously learned. She's an enthusiastic learner and this looks to be an enjoyable and productive tutorial."
"The student and I read an article about Kombigerate, appliances that are both leaf blowers and leaf collectors. The article was about testing different brands and had an explanation of which appliances scored higher and lower in different categories. This allowed the opportunity to learn new technical vocabulary and to compare different types of machines with regard to specific criteria. The student said that this article was helpful for technical vocabulary, and we plan to discuss another similar article next week."
