Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we covered the student's questions about the Ottoman Empire, the Crusades, and the formation of Israel, including the Six Day War and the Suez Crisis."
"For tonight's session, we focused on preparing for tomorrow's AP world history exam. We practiced using a sample quiz from his textbook. We went over flash cards and discussed using word-association maps vs. simple definitions on the backs of the cards."
"Over all, the review went very well. At the start his paper was a loose collection of paragraphs and sources, and by then end we had a very good general format which flowed cohesively from beginning to end. We focused primarily on this flow, getting from one idea to the next in the appropriate order. We also discussed ways to introduce specific information and where it would fit best in the overall structure of the paper. The was no question that he knew his sources and content well; the language itself was great with plenty of diction and syntax variation. His analysis, too, was spot on. In terms of this, we again talked only on what should be analyzed and the different ways positions could be taken: the act of taking a specific position was on him, which he said he felt good doing. I stressed identifying sources and watching his verb tense - everything else necessary to achieve a good paper was there. All we did was iron it out. We will be meeting again on Sunday at the same time and he will send me his completed rough draft beforehand."
