"The student and I discussed factoring trinomials. We started by factoring trinomials with a=1. We spent time learning the finer points to doing this. Once she mastered factoring simple trinomials, we changed a to any other constant and we used the ac method of factoring. We practiced this skill until she was comfortable enough to do the most challenging problems on her homework without any help from me."
"Today we started working on his homework over the laws of logarithm and the rules on when to apply it. Some questions required using the calculator, so we reviewed proper use of the calculator."
"We reviewed piece wise functions for his quiz this week. He was having trouble evaluating piece wise functions at different values for x and also plotting the functions on a graph. After we reviewed the content, I gave him several practice questions and was able to solve the problems correctly. I also reviewed the next section in his class dealing with linear and quadratic regressions. I should him how to solve several problems in that section using a graphing calculator. Overall it was a good session."
"The student and I prepared for her unit test on coordinate geometry. Specifically, we covered area and perimeter of polygons through analysis of coordinates, slope, and distance formula. She and I also looked at her county semester review packet."
"This session, the student and I worked on her homework for 6.3 - finding the sum of the interior angles of a polygon with n sides with the equation (n-2)*180 and also using that equation to then find the measure of an angle in a regular polygon with n sides. I think in her minor mistakes are stemming from the fact that she is again trying to take shortcuts and isn't writing out every number of every step, so she is leaving out numbers or steps because she's unable to see what she has done or even what numbers are involved. I am going to try to address this going forward by having her be more thorough and write every little step in each problem, emphasizing as we go every instance that she solves a problem without making any mistakes because she was more thorough (positive reinforcement)."
"Today we worked on general factorization of polynomials. This included systems with more than just three terms. This process used synthetic division along with all of the previous factoring techniques that we have gone over. The student was rusty, but after stumbling in the beginning she picked up the material quite well. I'm happy with our recent progress."
