Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on more math homework, again reviewing mean, median, mode and range. He recently got a test score back for math and he scored a 79, which is an improvement from past tests. He got an A on his last math homework assignment. He really seems to be getting stronger in math! Then we worked on his novel project for ELA."
"We went over practice problems for her AP Calculus Exam (i.e. limits, derivatives, integrals, finding the volume of a section when rotated about a specified axis). The student seemed confident about the material. No strategies or study skills were included in this session."
"The student and I reviewed conic sections for his test tomorrow. He had done most of the practice problems by himself before our session. Of the ones he did by himself he had a few questions about completing the square. We reviewed that and he was able to solve those problems. We went over the remaining problems together. He did well identifying the conic section by the given equation and then determining other properties such as axis or symmetry or the foci. He also was able to go the other way and use information such as directrix, foci, and so on, and write the equation and graph the conic section. He said that he was feeling prepared for the exam."
"In today's session, I worked with the student on two math concepts that he has been struggling with - rate problems and solving absolute value equations. I had him do a bunch of practice problems after we reviewed each topic together. We also went over each problem he did to make sure he was really understanding the material. After all that practice he does have a better grip on both topics, but more practice will definitely help him further solidify the skills we worked on today."
"The student is doing well with the concept of variables and is definitely showing improvement with adding versus multiplying and dividing negative and positive numbers. We also talked for about half an hour about her social studies homework."
"We worked through the formulas for area of polygons, focusing on why they work so that they'll be easier for the student to remember. I also advised him memorize the rules for special triangles because they get used a lot."
