"We talked a little about vocabulary, then went through a reading and a math section. We talked about how to utilize time on the reading section, and how to analyze answers."
"We mostly focused on math today. The student is doing well, as he can solve most problems independently."
"The student and I worked almost entirely on grammar today. I told her that three things the SAT loves are using the active vs passive voice, being concise, and keeping the singular/plural-ness of a noun correct in the form of the verb. I reminded her not to correct grammar questions automatically in her head. She should also not forget that words usually have a possibility of a second meaning, not just the definition that she already knows. One thing that sometimes bugs her is whether a comma should exist in one of the questions or not. I explained how commas are often optional, and that she should try to not let them worry her. In general, I am trying to get her to focus on exactly what the questions are asking. We quickly looked at some of the vocabulary she has been learning. Word definitions right now are her strong suit, so now we just have to get everything else up to that level. Her homework for tonight is to read a page I found in her book that explains what verbal participles are and how they are used, and to learn exactly what parallelism means in order that she should be able to recognize it in the next exam."
