Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began today by reviewing the four principal parts of a verb and what principal parts are used for the formation of the six tenses. This lead into the introduction of the formation of the perfect passive forms (perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect). He did quite well with these additional verb forms both identifying the Latin forms and coming up with the Latin form given the English translation. We then moved on to translating a passage from another Latin text "Alexander's Horse, Bucephalon" so that he could have practice both sight translating and using his perfect passive forms which he has yet to learn in the classroom. He did well with this translation especially when he read the entirety of the Latin sentence out loud first before attempting to translate. I finished today's tutoring session by putting a number of different verbs from all five conjugations in all combinations of tense and voice and had the student translate them. This allowed me to reinforce important concepts such as the future tense of the third conjugation and the unique personal endings of the perfect active."
"This session we studied for the student's chapter 30 vocab quiz. We also discussed etymology and English cognates as a memorization strategy. He just got back a 98/A on his chapter 29 quiz."
"Today the student and I covered 1st conjugation verbs in the present active indicative, and declining 1st declension nouns."
