Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over SAT test 1 sections 5 and 8, in addition to covering statistics/standard deviation and how to use summations. We reviewed vocab, the medium questions on math, and reading speed for long CR section."
"We looked at the student's practice work. She continues to maintain on the Reading. She did both of those passages in just under 11 minutes, which was her goal. Science is going quite well. She completed an entire section and missed a total of 7 questions which gave her a score of 28 on the section. That's exactly where she wants to be. The student has a firm grasp of the all the Math knowledge she needs, and knows how to apply it to types of questions the ACT asks. Next session we will review the Math she did on her own and focus on that, while also looking at Reading and Science."
"In today's session, we reviewed practice test #4 from the SAT study guide that was assigned to the student last week. He had an overall score improvement of 150 points from his last practice exam. Math continues to be his area of weakness, so we focused on this during today's session. We reviewed the backsolving and picking numbers strategies in solving more difficult math problems or when the approach to the problem is unclear at first. We also focused on some targeted practice in math on linear functions/graphs and working with radicals. For next session, I assigned him some targeted practice in topics in algebra (factoring, direct/inverse variation, function notation/evaluation, and quadratic equations). I also assigned him to complete practice test #5 in the SAT study guide to continue giving him simulated test day practice to prepare for test day in less than 4 weeks. Our next session is this Sunday from 4-6 p.m."
