"We worked on the student's outline for her in-class final essay comparing three stories. At the end, we went over gerunds, appositives, and adverbs. She seems well-prepared and has a good grasp of the material. Remember gerunds end in -ing."
"The student had a paragraph that she completed for her Language Arts class. She received feedback from her teacher that she should spend time working on run-on sentences, as well as punctuation. We worked on revising, correcting, and improving her paragraph so that it is ready to turn back in. I let her parents know that if they do not have any specific items to work on for next session, I will put together some work that involves punctuation, run-on sentences, and spelling."
"The student and I worked on how to analyze Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. We went through two passages together. The second passage was one that he had written in class on, and had read other students' essays too. He recognized that his thesis was more of a "summary" than an "analysis," so we talked about the differences and how he can improve. For the second one, I helped him figure out the theme, thesis, and 3 pieces of evidence, as well as what to say for the explanation section on one of the pieces of evidence. I also quickly went through some tips, and went over a graded/edited essay of his that I had taken home from last week. He does great when he works with me, and the goal going forward is to get him to be able to do the same types of analysis while he is in class."
