Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Last night, the students and I looked at some traditional French dishes, a French menu, and learned some new vocabulary for ordering in France. As the lesson progressed, they became increasingly more comfortable with the lesson. Next week, we will expand on what we learned last night and also do some review from previous sessions."
"For this lesson, I decided to coordinate French vocabulary with beginning consonant sounds. My hope was that this might coincide with the student's developing reading skills. I chose five different consonants. For each consonant, I prepared five to seven French vocabulary picture flashcards thereby introducing another 25-30 new vocabulary words. After practicing the words, I prepared a game for the student. I placed three consonant cut-outs on the table and then scattered a mix of the picture flashcards we had just practiced. I set a timer for one minute and challenged him to see how many cards he could match to the correct consonant in that time period. We were only able to try this activity one time, as I hadn't made certain the student had a better command of the vocabulary. We also spent approximately 10 minutes reading a French storybook he had brought home from school."
"We conversed about her week, current events, read and discussed an article I sent her prior to our session; music, Bigouden culture in Bretagne, etc. For next week she will prepare in advance for an article I will send her."
