Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started the session with the normal vocabulary quiz, and the student got all but a few correct. He will review 50 more for next week. For homework, I assigned him one practice test. We went over the wrong answers from the sections he completed. He still gets tripped up on sentence completion questions with vocabulary words he doesn't know, so we went over how to determine the answer from context clues. His weakest section is still reading passages. He is pretty good on math and his errors are usually simple errors (reading the question wrong) he can easily fix. Then I had him complete three more multiple choice sections from the test, and we went over the wrong answers together. For homework, he will do the writing section from the first test and then one more practice test. His verbal score from this practice test was 670 and his math score was 680--both marked improvements over his diagnostic test, but I think he can get them over 700 with more studying and practice."
"The student and I went through some final tune-ups for his SAT. He has some test anxiety, which is normal. I left will with notes on strategies to remember on the test, and he seems committed to practicing on his own over the next couple of weeks. I think this will help him remember to stick to his plan for each section and not get overwhelmed."
