Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session, we worked on solving linear equations (we'll be working on solving quadratic equations next time) and going over a practice set. The student got a lot of practice solving 2 equations with 2 variables and is learning tricks/shortcuts to answering questions on the full length test. He is getting better at avoiding minor errors. For the past 2 sessions, we've split our time working on basics and practice sets, I would like to continue this schedule of focusing on one basic task (e.g. quadratic equations, geometry) in the first hour and then solving practice sets in the second hour."
"We reviewed exponents - remember the basic formulas for adding/ multiplying/ and raising exponents and try to break the problem down or factor out like terms. We spent a lot of time working more on the geometry sections because it incorporates other aspects of the test like algebra. Good luck on the practice test!"
"The student and I spent our time going over several mathematical concepts and then reviewing practice problems to apply those concepts. Since permutations, combinations, and factorials are less frequently found on the GRE, we skipped those and instead focused most of our time on probability, proportion, ratio, and rate. I showed her my process for setting up equations in a variety of different problems, and by the end of the session she seemed much more confident and comfortable with setting up different questions."
