Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student and I reviewed some of the metaphors present in the Acts of the Apostles and the differing interpretations on exhortation of Paul and Barnabas."
"We went over the student's basic concerns about writing, and I answered some questions about her current schoolwork subjects."
"The student and I began the session by meeting with his mom and discussing what they each hope to gain from tutoring, as well as what each party believes is the main sources of his struggle. The student and I then spent the rest of the tutoring session one-on-one. We reviewed his recent peer editing comments on the introduction for his upcoming paper. We went through his introduction sentence by sentence and discussed the importance of succinct diction, clear syntax, and easy to follow organization that sets the stage for the rest of the paper, making it much easier for your reader to follow your argument. After revising his introduction, we talked more globally about strategies he can use going forward, such as taking notes on his sources and utilizing the thesaurus when he is stuck on a word. We created due dates for each rough draft portion of his paper, to be reviewed with me the Sunday before they are due in class. We also talked about blocking out time each week to work to prevent procrastination and hasty writing."
