Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the law of logarithmic functions, how to simplify and expand these types of functions, and how to solve for x using u substitution. The student did not know the laws of logarithmic functions and, consequently, she was having trouble keeping up with her class. After reviewing the material, she quickly caught on and understood the solutions to many of the problems in her notes."
"We continued to work on law of sines problems, especially word problems involving bearings and complex triangle problems. The student has shown great improvement in this as she was able to solve some of the more challenging ones all on her own."
"We covered parametric and polar coordinates and their uses, and we tried to develop an intuition for how equations will turn out. Lots of exploration, and some practice with conversions between parametric/polar and Cartesian. She was interested and seemed to enjoy it, which is great! She did very well on her placement exam. Great work!"
"Reviewed for upcoming trigonometry test. Focused on clarifying characteristics and behavior of basic trig functions and how to use a reference circle to determine values for trig functions at common angles. Also worked on trig identity properties and using them to simplify or prove trig functions."
"The student and I practiced manipulating complex numbers. She had difficulty with finding the roots of an equation, especially polynomials. I broke down the different steps and walked her through sample problems. She said she felt more confident about these types of problems by the end of the session. I left her with a practice quiz from unit 2 to work on these types of problems. I encouraged her to continue practicing before her exam."
"We covered population growth and half life equations. She was struggling with coming up with the formulas to model these scenarios, but after a few examples she was able to do it fairly quickly. I think she had tried to do the problems previously, but had them wrong, so she may have been a bit confused on the material, but we were able to come up with the correct equations. I didn't include any strategies in this session, most of what we did followed a specific formula that has to be followed, nor did I give her any extra practice. I didn't see any scores or grades to note progress."
