"We worked on questions from the algebra practice assessment exam. Topics included the mean and median of a set of data, exponential growth/decay problems, how to determine the percent rate of increase/decrease based on the function, and the quadratic formula."
"In this session, we went over some of the new things that the students have been learning. Student 1 spent most of the session working on inequalities. At first, he was having a difficult time understanding how to solve the inequalities. After working through a few examples with him, he understood what to do. Students 2 and 3 spent their time this session learning how to write equations in point slope formula given a point and a slope. At the beginning, they had a hard time knowing how to subtract negative numbers from negative numbers and positive numbers from negative numbers. After I went over with them what to do in those certain cases, they seemed to understood it. All three boys worked well today."
"Covered Pythagorean Theorem on a coordinate plane. Reviewed from previous test that was redone. Completed homework covering algebraic equations with the variable x in two places and with fractions. The student was struggling most with fractions, but picked up quickly and was able to successfully answer multiple extra questions that I gave him. His attitude was very positive, especially when he was able to complete difficult questions."
"I gave the student some problems on a worksheet to practice on. We covered substitutions, binomial expansion, and how to verify answers by plugging them back into the equation. He has shown improvement in working with negative numbers and mental math, but we can do more in this area. I have assigned him #7-10 on the worksheet to do as homework until our next session. Some of the problems on this sheet were on topics covered in the last session, and some of the problems are on topics discussed today."
"In this session we covered many topics of chemistry. The student is behind in his chemistry studies and we took this opportunity to catch up as best we could. He did wonderful in this session. He brought a great energy and was focused on the studying. We covered unit conversion as well as how to find molecular weight. We worked on some reactions as well. I left him with many practice problems on his worksheets, and hope that he can finish most of these before Sunday, when we meet next."
"I worked with the student on problems that were centered around using properties of special right triangles (30-60-90 and 45-45-90) to solve a variety of situations. She was confident and flexible in solving these problems, needing very little assistance. She continued to solve even the problems dealing with area of polygons with ease. She is especially quick when rationalizing denominators containing square roots; she keeps looking for and making use of patterns that speed up routine calculations. Her use of patterns has also helped her catch and correct calculation errors in her own work. She is strong in understanding and using this geometry topic."
